Chapter 1 Introduction
Students will be able to:
-Define CELL and Cell Biology;
-Understand the simple history of cell biology;
-Describe cell theory
-Understand the basic properties of cells;
-Explain the main differences of structure of prokaryocyte and eukaryocyte.
-Understand the main stages of the formation and evolution of cell.

Chapter 2 The structure and Function of plasma membrane
Students will be able to:
-Describe the membrane function.
-Explain the molecular structure (fluid-mosaic model).
-Explain the composition.
a. Membrane lipid
b. Membrane proteins
c. Membrane carbohydrates
-Explain the characters of plasma membrane.
a. Fluidity
b. Asymmetry
-Explain the movement of substances across cell membranes

Chapter 3 Mitochondrion
Students will be able to:
-Explain the structure and function of mitochondrion.
a. Membrane
b. Matrix
-Describe half-autonomy of mitochondrion.
-Define oxidative phosphorylation, elementary particle, electron-transport chain (respiratory chain) and cellular respiration (cellular oxidation, biological oxidation).
-Describe the role of Mitochondria in the formation of ATP.
-Understand glycolysis, tricarboxylic acid cycle and chemiosmotic coupling hypothesis.

Chapter 4 Endomembrane System
Students will be able to:
-Explain the structural form of the ribosome as far as its four functional active sites are concerned.
-Explain the structural form and functions of the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (rER) and Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (sER).
-Understand of the chemical composition of the Endoplasmic Reticulum.
-Understand of the signal hypothesis of rER proteinic synthesis.
-Explain the structural form and functions of the Golgi complex.
-Understand of the chemical composition of the Golgi complex.
-Describe Familiarization with the structural form, types and chemical composition of the lysosome.
-Explain the formation process of lysosomes and their functions.
-Understand of the structural form and function of the peroxisome.
Chapter 5 Cytoskeleton
Students will be able to:
-Explain the concepts and functions of the Cytoskeleton.
-Explain the structure, chemical composition, assembly and functions of Microtubules and Microfilaments.
-Understand of Intermediate Filaments (IF), their distributing types and functions.

Chapter 6 Nucleus and the control of gene expression
Students will be able to:
-Describe the function of nucleus.
-Explain the ultrastructure and function of nuclear envelope.
-Define nuclear pore complex.
-Explain the composition and lowest level organization of chromatin.
-Describe the packaging and four levels organizations of chromatin.
-Explain the types of chromatin.
-Describe the configuration of chromosome and karyotype.
-Explain the ultrastructure and function of nucleolus.

Chapter 7 Cell Division and the Cell Cycle
Students will be able to:
-Explain the concept of mitosis.
-Explain the main features of mitosis prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase.
-Describe with the biological significance of mitosis.
-Explain the concept of meiosis as well as the characteristics of the stages in meiosis.
-Describe with the comparison between mitosis and meiosis.
-Describe with the biological significance of meiosis.
-Understand of the process of formation of germ cell.
-Explain the concepts of the cell cycle and the divisions of the cell cycle.
-Describe with characteristics of the stages of the cell cycle.
-Understand of the relation between the cell cycle and the study of medicine.

Teaching hours: 24 hours
Exp. 1 Structure and Use of ordinary light Microscope, and Observation of basic structure of cell
Students will be able to:
-Understand the structure and capability of light microscope
-Describe the ways to save the light microscope.
-Master the ways of use the low power objective and high power objective.
-Master the ways of making casual specimen.
-Understand the configurations of few kinds of cells.
-Describe the differences between the animal cell and plant cell.
-Master the ways of drawing biological picture.
Exp. 2 Cell fusion
Students will be able to:
-Master the theory and technique of inducing cell fusion with PEG
-Describe the process of cell fusion under the light microscope.
-Understand the calculation of rate of fusion.
Exp. 3 Making chromosomal specimen of marrow cell from mice
Students will be able to:
-Understand the ways of administrating and executing experimental animal.
a. Administrating by injecting medicine into abdominal cavity.
b. Killing the mouse by disjointing its cervical vertebra.
-Master the ways of making chromosomal specimen of marrow cell from mice
a. Describe the ways of abstracting marrow cell.
b. Describe hypotonic treatment and fix of speciment.
c. Master the ways of using centrifuge.
d. Describe the process of dropping the cell suspension to slide.
c. Understand the way of staining specimen.
-Master the way of using immersion objective.
Exp. 4 Cellular endocytosis
Students will be able to:
-Explain the theory of cellular endocytosis.
-Describe the process of cellular endocytosis.
a. Describe the way of administrating and executing mice.
b. Master the technique of making specimen to show the endocytosis of macrophages in mouse¡¯s abdominal cavity.
Exp. 5 Peroxidase reaction
Students will be able to:
-Master the ways and the theory of displaying Peroxidase within cell.
Exp.6 Observation of cytoskeleton
Students will be able to:
-Master the ways of making the speciment of cytoskeleton.
-Describe the netlike structure of cytoskeleton under the light microscope.
Exp. 7 Meiosis
Students will be able to:
-Describe the characters of phases of meiosis and the rule of chromosomal activity.
-Explain the prophase I of meiosis, especially the characters of the 5 stages in prophase I.
-Understand the arising progress of gem cell and the characters of developing stages.
